Poet, singer-songwriter, multi-artist Brazilian. A master’s degree in Literature from USP (Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences, University of São Paulo) and PhD in Arts Scene of the Institute of UNICAMP Arts.
Received the Virtuoso Scholarship for Artists of the Ministry of Culture of Brazil. Studied music at the Mannes College of Music and Jazz and Contemporary Music Program in New York (USA). Actress and theater director graduated in Performing Arts from UNICAMP, studied Dramatic Arts in Beckett Room in Barcelona (Spain).

The recording Fine Biscuit recently released the first CD recorded live Beatriz Azevedo career – Live antroPOPhagia in New York – with own compositions, original arrangements to Cole Porter and Tom Jobim, and partnerships with the newest generation of Brazilian musicians. Release shows were at SESC Pompeia in Sao Paulo, with cameos from Bocato, Gustavo Rooster, Jaques Morelenbaum and Zelia Duncan.
Your JOY cd was released by Fine Biscuit in Brazil, with original compositions and appearances by Tom Zé and Vinicius Canterbury. Outside, the CD was released by Discmedi and 121 Digital Media in Europe, and DG Diffusion in France. The album features musical direction of Christopher Bastos and has great musicians as Bocato, Carlos and Jorge Helder Bala. Held between SP, Rio and New York, where Beatriz recorded the participation of Anat Cohen, Jamie Leonhart and Michael Leonhart.
Beatriz Azevedo’s music is included in the collection ‘Brazil-The Essential album’, alongside Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, João Gilberto and Chico Buarque. The double album was released in England by Union Square Music. Two other songs of his own are on cd ‘Bossa Nova Nights’ in the same label. The recording Fine Biscuit also launched the collection “From Sampa”, including a range of Beatriz Azevedo alongside other artists such as Arnaldo Antunes São Paulo, Adoniram Barbosa, Luiz Tatit, Monica Salmaso, Rita Lee, and the Bahian “São Paulo” Tom Zé.
“Map-Mundi [samba and poetry]” is the second CD of Beatrice, and was produced by Ale Siqueira. The CD “poet’s butt,” his first album, was released in Brazil by Natasha Records and Japan by Nippon Crown. Beatriz Azevedo has recorded compositions and / or partners with artists like Adriana Calcanhotto, Celso Yes, Christopher Bastos, Vinicius Canterbury, Tom Zé, Zé Celso Martinez Correa and Zelia Duncan, among others. When I lived in New York, Beatriz participated in shows alongside Cyro Baptista and Vinicius Canterbury. His band was formed by great musicians of the NY scene, as Bill Holcomb, Didi Gutman, Mauro Refosco, Michael Leonhart, Smokey Hornel and others.
As an actress, directed by Zé Celso Martinez Correa, starred in “Ham-Let” and “Bacchae” Theatre Workshop shows. He worked alongside Giulia Gam and Rosi Campos in dramatic reading of Matamoros, Teatro SESC Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. Matamoros, text Hilda Hilst, debuted after the CCBB in São Paulo, with Beatriz Azevedo, Luiz Paetow, Maria Alice Vergueiro and Sabrina Greve in the cast. Beatriz also interpreted the work of Hilda Hilst writer in special program conducted by TV Cultura.
Starred in “Urban Opera Zucco”, translating and staging the work of the French playwright Bernard Marie Koltès, first published in Brazil. Beatriz Azevedo also translated “Le Funambule”, the text writer Jean Genet, acting in dramatic readings alongside Zé Celso Martinez Correa. Founded his own cia Cabaret Babel, acting, writing and directing several shows, including “Bilitis” and “I Love: Mayakovsky and Lili Brik”. Received theater awards, poetry and drama, including Scenic Language Research Award of the State Secretariat of Culture of São Paulo.
Signed the Curator and Artistic Director of EIA! (International Meeting of Antropofagia, the SESC Pompeia, in SP. For three years he was a fellow of FAPESP with research on the work of the writer Oswald de Andrade. He received the Media Award Free for creating the website www.antropofagia.com.br TV Culture filmed his show “bum bum poet” and showed on television the special program with the participation of José Miguel Wisnik and Zé Celso. He wrote the Stone Age books (Publisher Illuminations), with Jorge Mautner’s preface, and Peripatetic (Illuminations).
